Dear visitors of the Days of European Film,

The effort to capture a picture of the world and trap it in pictures moving and fixed
has been around for thousands of years. The individual epochs of history are often perceived through the lens of the artistic and depiction forms typical for them, though. We have the Ancient Greece fixed in the colour spectrum of white and light ochre
in our minds due to the alabaster sculptural groups and stone amphitheatres. The turn of the 19th and 20th century is black and white because of the cinematography
and photography development, the 1970's are then abounding in colours, though
with the grainy effect typical for the TV sets of that time. And what about today?
From pictures enlarged by candle-light, magical lanterns and fantastic-scopes
we progressed to the 3D films and tricks perfected to such a level that we cannot distinguish them from reality. Our descendants will then perceive our time in HD quality. Yet not even the best technology possible can guarantee a good film.

Good films are made by...
